Las Americas

The perfect place to spend your winter holiday

Playa de las Americas is a holiday resort on the south coast of Tenerife near Los Cristianos. The south of Tenerife is sunnier and drier than the north, so if you are looking for sun, beaches and nightlife, you will enjoy spending your holiday here.

Playa de las Americas is a modern holiday resort with many beautiful luxury hotel complexes with extensive gardens and swimming pools. The area used to have a bad reputation due to street fights and drunks, but the city invested in the modernization of the resort and the situation has improved significantly.

What to do in Playa de las Americas

There are plenty of nightclubs in Playa de las Americas where you can spend the night partying. There are also lots of pubs and restaurants, so everyone can find something for themselves here. If you like nightlife this place is perfect for you as there is a long street full of shops, bars and nightclubs called the Veronica´s strip.

Beaches in Las Americas

The main beach is a nice sandy beach with golden sand, which was brought from Sahara desert. The beaches are also suitable for children, because the breakwaters are arranged so that even the smallest ones can swim in the sea. If you like surfing, head to Playa de Guincho, where you can usually find big waves suitable for surfers.

Beach promenade

There is a long beach promenade that stretches from Los Cristianos to Las Americas and along which you will find many different restaurants, shops and hotels. It is a great walk if it is not hot. When you get tired, you can sit down in one of the restaurants and then move on.

Winter vacation in Las Americas

If you are coming to Tenerife to escape the long winter, then I highly recommend staying in Las Americas (along with Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje). The climate is pleasant and warm all year round because it is not usually windy, so you can enjoy the sun, beaches and swimming all year round, with few exceptions. Please note that in January and February the water temperature can only be 16-18 degrees, so most people cannot stay in the water for too long.

Port of Los Cristianos

The port of Los Cristianos is located right next to the main beaches, so you can watch the big Fred Olsen and Armas ferries arrive from nearby islands and see cars and lorries enter or leave the ferry while sunbathing on the beach. Many other boats also leave the port of Los Cristianos to take tourists on trips to see dolphins and whales. There are also glass-bottomed boat trips and diving trips. Here you can find and book many boat trips and other activities such as diving or visiting the water parks.

Visit nearby water parks and zoos

If you come to Tenerife with children, you will be delighted to take them to one of the water parks or zoo gardens. Aqualand, Siam Park and Jungle Park are close to Los Cristianos and can be easily reached with a free tourist bus.

Boat transport to nearby islands from the nearby port

You can book a ticket with ferry companies Fred Olsen and Armas to take you to other Canary islands. Fred Olsen travels to La Gomera and La Palma. Naviera Armas will take you to El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma. The journey to El Hierro takes 2.5 hours, the journey to La Gomera an hour and La Palma can be reached in four hours. Prices may vary, so we prefer not to list them, it also depends a lot on whether you are a resident on the island, because residents have a big discount on travel both between the islands and between the Canary Islands and mainland Spain.
