Playa de La Arena
Small holiday town with a unusually beautiful black sand beach
Playa de la Arena is a small tourist resort on the west coast of Tenerife. It is a small beach with black volcanic sand, and it is truly beautiful, as it is nestled between two small cliffs and thus protected from the wind. There are other small beaches nearby that you can go for a walk during your holiday.
Big waves are a great fun, but the beach is not suitable for children
This beach has its own great charm, the sand on it seems blacker than elsewhere and the waves are very strong here. It is fun to get into the water and try how long you can stand on your feet before the wave pulls you down, but the problem is that there is often a red flag (which, in my opinion, the Canarian lifeguards use far too frequently and if lifeguards in Australia or South Africa used it as much as Canarians, then they will never be able to get into the sea). This beach is definitely not suitable for children, because it get deep just a few meters from the shore and the waves are too strong.
Stable weather all year round
Playa de la Arena is located in a part of the island where the weather is stable all year round and it almost never rains, even in the winter months. That is why this little town is one of the best places on the island to stay if you’re in search of sun and sandy beaches.
Many boats sail out to sea from nearby marina in Los Gigantes, taking tourists on trips where they can see dolphins and whales. There are also glass-bottomed boat trips and diving trips. Here you can find and book one of the many boat trips or other activities from diving to visiting the water park.
